Linklaters Recruitment Case Study

Linklaters is a world leading "Magic Circle" law firm, specialising in advising the worlds leading companies, financial institutions and governments on their most challenging transactions and assignments. With offices in major business and financial centres, they deliver an outstanding service to clients anywhere in the world. Harcourt Matthews was retained to support the establishment and evolution of the Strategic Planning & Marketing, Business Development and Finance functions to ensure continued growth.

Key objectives for the Strategy team included defining short, medium and long term needs, which initially involved building a small, highly focused Strategy team of two, which has subsequently evolved into a team of twenty individuals, encompassing strategy, marketing, business planning & analysis.

Key objectives for the Finance team included defining short, medium and long term business needs and the development of the Commercial and Reporting Finance teams.

The recruitment programme was conducted in a phased approach.

Phase 1
Strategy Manager and Strategic Marketing Manager were sought from the premier or first division Strategy Management Consulting firms. Harcourt Matthews adopted a campaign approach encompassing Sunday Times and FT advertising alongside a search & headhunting programme.

Phase 2
The new team had clearly enabled the forward development of the firm via the development of new markets, alliances and acquisitions which meant resources were thinly spread, and combined with the demands from operations meant that the team was seen as a "senior management seed bed" for talent - team members with individuals moving on into the business.

Phase 3
Business Planners, Business Analysts, Business Managers, Strategy Managers were subsequently recruited to backfill those on the move internally.

Phase 4
As a result of our successful recruitment management, we were invited to supply Accounting and Finance middle and senior management roles including Financial Accountants; Treasury Advisor; Group Reporting Analysts; Financial Analysis Manager; Financial Controller; Tax Advisor; International Tax Manager; Financial Analysts; Partnership Accountant; LP- Commercial Accountant; Management Accountant amongst others.

Additionally, we have subsequently supported recruitment for Client Relationship and Business Managers.

The recruitment campaign and candidate sourcing processes encompassed:

  • Accessing HML network & CV database - identifying existing contacts and new referrals/recommendations
  • Accessing several CV databases to cover the active UK candidate market 
  • Online jobsite advertising including GAAPWeb.com, Reed, Monster, Totaljobs etc
  • Use of 3rd party outsourced research businesses to identify scarce candidate resource 
  • Advertising within Sunday Times, Financial Times and accounting journals
  • Direct mail-shot program to 25,000 CIMA, ACCA and ACA individuals

Harcourt Matthews have now worked closely with Linklaters for over 10 years, and having successfully recruited for a range of corporate teams, have an ongoing brief to identify talent in the market place to support ongoing business growth.
