Morrison Group Recruitment Case Study

Morrison is one of the country's leading facilities services providers. Private businesses, central and local government bodies seek their support to maintain and manage both their own and their residents' buildings. Specific services include Repairs & Maintenance  of social housing; Decent Homes The UK government's initiative - a commitment to tenants; Energy & Waste Management Private Finance Initiatives (Pfi) - a growing part of the group in the FM services arena promoting efficiency measures in residential, public and operational premises.

An internal review of existing and new business identified the need to leverage higher calibre and quality for head office accounting and finance staff, in particular, the Planning & Analysis and Financial Reporting function, where the CFO sought to make step changes in the level and capability of the team and at the same time reduce the number of temporary staff within the whole finance community in London and the UK.

Several key objectives were highlighted, including:

  • Development and replenishment of existing team and increasing the depth of high calibre individuals within an organisation which is under going rapid growth
  • Identifying commercially and technically focused individuals to evolve best practice in planning & analysis, reporting and financial control

Harcourt Matthews established a recruitment campaign and candidate sourcing processes encompassing:

  • Accessing our network & CV database, existing contacts and gaining new referrals/recommendations
  • Accessing several jobsite CV databases covering the active UK candidate market
  • Advertising on several jobsites
  • Using our internal and several 3rd party outsourced research businesses contracted to identify and to supply scarce candidate resource (passive & non active people)
  • Specific sector headhunting campaigns complementing the above approach
  • Direct mail-shot programme to specific CIMA, ACCA and ACA individuals who fulfilled the brief

This has resulted in the successful recruitment of 4 qualified and part qualified accountants and inclusion as a preferred supplier list for the UK business. Additionally, we have been asked to support other functional disciplines including Procurement, IT and Operations.
